Your right.. that was an overbet. I was thinking he made a weaker flush but in retrospect a value bet would be a better play..Good observation.. it's key for poker.. GL

That's right. It's important to make small bets, and not get too greedy. Most players tend to overbet in these situations.

its also important to take a pot down when you can.....odds mean nothing. You can get screwed any hand so just take it down while you can.....theres enough idiots out there to call your nuts with terrible hands

depending on how tight/loose that player is on this hand, he may have had top pair or 2nd to top pair. Since there was a 9,J,Q,K on the board; most people would notice that having a 10 would make a straight, and given his position to call a bet thats 80% of the pot he was probably thinking you got lucky and hit a straight...imagine how much money you would have got if that last card wasnt a Jack.

The reason for that ... ( 8 months ago by BartJ385)
The reason for that is simple - the odds for QQ running into KK or AA are 1:11 altogether at a full table. Half of the time your raise with QQ will result in everyone folding. So if you do get customers, the odds that one holds KK or AA are 1:6.

No problem, here ... ( 8 months ago by BartJ385)
No problem, here you are - the chance of getting AA is 1/221 (first card A 4/52, second card A 3/51 = 1/221). KK gets the same chance. So the odds of anyone of your 9 opponents getting AA or KK is 18/221 or 1/12.7 (not 1/11, sorry). So with your QQ you will run into AA or KK once out of 12 times. These numbers apply pre-betting. ...

... "Half of the time your raise with QQ will result in everyone folding." - I do not have any statistics here, this is just a rough guess. I just meant to say that people usually forget to count the times when their QQ did not see action, but they obviously count into the 1/12.7-chance.
If the odds that ... ( 8 months ago by wpodin1488)
If the odds that you run into KK is 1/221, then the odds that they run into AA is 1/221. The odds that both of you run into them in the same hand... 2/442 or 1/221
I don't know what ... ( 8 months ago by BartJ385)
I don't know what you are talking about now; are you trying to figure out what the odds are to run into AA and KK at the same time with your QQ? The chance that any of your 9 opponents holds AA or KK is, as said, 1/12; the chance, that one of the remaining 8 opponents then has the missing overpair is roughly 1/18. So you are right, the chances for QQ to run into AA and KK are about 1/221.

good job of ignoring the immature posts on this site. In every crowd, someone has to boost their own ego by finding fault with someone else. Goodness, the same thing occurs when someone has a gaming video on this thing.

I was thinking the same thing. I assume he hit one pair. I liked the check on the turn, this often confuses opponents. I even think another check on the river may have induced another bet...(if hes a dope), although probably a small bet is the right option. Compelled to call with a made hand and chance of re-raise bluff
