No, that's just simply getting lucky and sucking out, but it's not a bad beat. A bad beat is when you clearly have a very strong hand, but only came up second best to an opponent's. To me, a bad beat is losing with a full house (which you used both your hole cards to make) to a better hand.

Also, there is no such thing as a true definition of a bad beat. It is undefined, and is only defined based on a player's opinion. There is only a common definition which is losing with a very strong hand.

if you read my previous comments thats exactly what i said, i do think getting sucked out on is a bad beat especially if its a one or two outter, my original argument is that this is not really a bad beat because phillips had him beat from the turn, and all the money went in after the river. however if this was a cash game a bad beat jackpot would have been paid out, and if you ask the guy with the quads he would say it is a bad beat. i think we agree more than disagree

no youre retarded. a bad beat is when at one point in the hand youre a huge favorite and then end up losing. now when theres only a couple of possible hands, or only one hand, that could beat you, such as in this case, that is called "the cooler". therefore, this person got "coolered" and it wasnt that bad a beat because he prolly let his opponent get tehre and at the turn he was ahead. it was just a shitty card that made him lose all his chips, but if anything the bad beat was on the turn.

The people saying that this isn't a bad beat because "they both had good hands and a bad beat is when you are massively ahead but lose" are idiots because as you can see, the guy flops a set of aces and the other guy hits RUNNER RUNNER straight flush. The guy that lost was an 84% favourite on the flop. I don't claim to be any sort of professional poker player, but if you can't see this is a bad beat you should seriously consider whether you should keep playing poker.
